It’s one of the very few moments in someone’s life, when you have the opportunity and the responsibility to introduce to the world something related with perfection. And yes, we are talking about Arrest! Charlie Tippers’ new LP.

It was recorded before two years, and today we are more than glad as a label, to introduce it to the Indie Pop audience around the globe. It includes 11 songs like diamonds, covering all the tastes. It includes everything, melody, noise, trumpets, politics, love.

When Tim Rippington gave us the chance to listen to this gem, we saw all our lives and memories passing in front of us. It is probably because the people behind Arrest! Charlie Tipper have dedicate their lives to Independent- alternative UK music for almost four decades now. They were all members of some of our favorite bands like The Five Year Plan, The Groove Farm, Beatnik Filmstars, Rorschach, The Rosehips, The Flatmates, etc.

Old Bad Habits label started its contribution to music, a year ago. We are celebrating our 1st year birthday with this release. For this reason, it will be offered, during the preorder period only, on a very special price of 11,5€. A limited edition of 150 hand numbered copies, on red-black marbled vinyl.

The cover painting is a work of art by Liverpool artist and ex Half Man Half Biscuit (1991-6), Ian Jay (Jackson). Just respect from our end!

RED – SONG BY SONG

BUBBLE: We sometimes get accused of living in a bubble, of not reading or hearing or understanding the point of view of other people. On the other hand, the people who are your friends are your friends for a reason. This song was written long before any of us had heard of the coronavirus – the “bubble” has come to mean something altogether different since then!

The 93%: ..and if I was locked in a room with a hundred people, I reckon I’d probably really like about 7 of them. This is a slghlty different version from the 7” single due to the addition of Geoff’s backing vocal, which was originally omitted.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH: More than ever, those on the far-right are using the excuse of freedom of speech to preach hate. There have to be limits to personal freedom, which is when it impinges on the personal freedom of others. This song was originally released as a CD only single to go with the Pop Not Hate gigs organised by the band in 2019 – that version was shorter and featured cornet, whereas this extended version gives more air to the anaologue synths – a nod towards Stereolab there perhaps?

ANNIK: a tribute to Ian Curtis’ girlfriend Annik Honore. Given the huge interest in Joy Division following Curtis’ death in 1980, she could have made a fortune selling her story. Instead, she chose to remain anonymous until she too died a few years ago at a relatively young age.

SHELF: Mankind is amazing - it’s people who are the problem. We can send people to the moon, but putting up something as simple as a shelf is beyond many of us (including the writer!)

POETS: Jon says – “I was outside the closed down Cheltenham Road Library, activists had taken the building to protest against luxury flats planned to be built on the site. Private security were gearing up to move them out. Police intervened and the protesters left, straight down the road into the closed down hospital where plans to build luxury flats had been announced. I could see a pattern forming!”

GOLDEN SMILE: There are beautiful but sadistic people out there. This song isn’t about one person but a compilation of a few that I’ve come across in my time.

DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE: a totally self-explanatory tale but gender-neutral in its telling.

ALL FOR SALE: If this song has a message it is that in today’s consumer-sodden world everything has a price. Precious commodities like grace, honesty and love can be hard to come by and, when you do, chances are some bastard somewhere is going to put a price tag on it.

HURT: Emotional hurt can last a long time and lead you to promise yourself a lot of things but sometimes it can lead to a much greater self-knowledge about who you are.

THE TRIPLE C : Written in the immediate aftermath of the 2017 UK General Election when almost anything seemed like it could be possible and better times were just around the corner. How little did we know. I now find this song very difficult to listen to, it is so full of hope and so many things have got worse since then!

The band began life as The Charlie Tipper Experiment in 2013, releasing an album and a clutch of singles for Breaking Down Recordings.

In 2015 the band became The Charlie Tipper Conspiracy for no real reason other than they thought it would be a good idea to keep people guessing as to what they were up to.

This happened again in December 2017 when the band became Arrest! Charlie Tipper.

2019 was spent playing up and down the country on our ‘Pop Not Hate’ project raising money for Anti racist/anti fascists charities.
